The
Leagues of Women Voters of the Akron Area, Tallmadge, and Hudson
invite the public to a free educational forum on standardized
testing in our schools.
The
Good the Bad the Ugly: State Mandated Testing Past, Present, and
Future is a panel discussion, with these distinguished speakers
scheduled to participate:
Barbara Brothers, Ph.D., Dean Emeritus, Youngstown State
University and LWV Youngstown Education Committee Chair, who will
give background on testing in Ohio.
Sarah Fowler, District 7 Ohio BOE member (which includes Akron
and Tallmadge - Hudson in District 5) who will speak on the state's
position on testing and pending changes to testing.
Jeff Ferguson, Superintendent of Tallmadge Schools, who will
discuss the financial impact of testing on the schools.
Jesse Wray, technology writer and PhD candidate in Educational
Psychology and Instructional Technology, speaking to the
technological skills and preparation needed to take our current
tests.
The
goal of this program is to put testing in Ohio in its historical and
policy context, highlighting the impact on schools, students and
teachers. After the panelists have spoken on their area of
expertise, there will be time for audience questions.
The
program is free and open to the public, and will be held at the
Akron-Summit County Public Library, 60 South High Street, Akron,
Ohio on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 5:30 - 7:30PM. Parking is
available in the deck adjacent to the library, the entrance is on
High Street across from the Akron Art Museum. |
